Bay Area Trails
We especially enjoy living where we do because of our proximity to so many lovely trails and walking paths. The Sweeney Ridge trail, leading to the Portola Discovery site, begins only a few blocks from our house. The Milagra Ridge Nike site is a few miles away, but easily reachable on foot. Other trails are reachable by only a short drive; one of our favorites, the Sawyer Camp Trail, is 6 miles long and runs along the watershed and lakes.San Mateo County maintains a large number of trails, both paved and unpaved. The Sawyer Camp Trail is one of the paved SM County trails.
Near our house, several of the county trails connect to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA), overseen by the GGNPA (Golden Gate National Parks Association), of which we are members. Sweeney Ridge and Milagra Ridge are parts of the GGNRA lands.
Another association, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council, seeks to create a 400-mile ridge trail "loop" around the bay.
